WOODSTOCK "TRIBUTE" PLANS UNDERWAY
Woodstock, Illinois January 26, 2009 -- This summer, on August 14th & 15th, music fans from McHenry County, the Chicago area and from throughout the Midwest will converge on Galt Airport to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, the world-famous and now historic music & peace festival that drew over 500,000 to Max Yasgur's farm, near Woodstock, New York in 1969.
"Galt's concert weekend, coincidentally, marks the exact weekend of the original Woodstock Festival...only 40 years later," says event organizer Laura Witlox. "Hosting a Woodstock 'Tribute' concert seemed like an exciting idea. It's a natural," she said. "
After all, Woodstock, Illinois is just down the road." She continued by saying, "We searched coast to coast, for several months, to locate and book the very finest tribute bands in the nation."In all, eight bands are scheduled to appear.
They include tributes to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead and Santana.
"These are bands that played at the original '69 concert in upstate New York," she went on, "It's such a great concept. We are having a ball putting it together," reports Witlox.
"Most of us are familiar with tribute bands," says coordinator Michael Stanard. "A local favorite, for example, is American English, a tribute band that accurately recreates the Beatles experience to an astonishingly degree.
"What we've done," he goes on, "is locate and book tribute bands who will astound concert goers with the quality, accuracy and excitement they create with the music performed at the original Woodstock event.
The tribute bands we've booked are astonishing. These bands will blow people away," says Stanard.On Friday evening Kelven Dyson, as Jimi Hendrix, will open the show with a set scheduled to begin at 7:00.
Following Hendrix, direct from New York City, will be Lauren Bernal, who will deliver an uncanny tribute to Janis Joplin. Headlining Friday night's show will be Joe Cocker, performed by Alan Kaye and his Mad Dogs Band.
Kaye has the reputation of being the best in the business.On Saturday, five additional bands will converge from across the country on Woodstock, Illinois, to perform throughout the afternoon and into the evening on the Galt Airport stage in one of the most beautiful, affordable and comfortable outdoor music venues in the Midwest.
Saturday's music will begin in the afternoon at 3:00. Saturday afternoon and evening acts will include: Creedence Clearwater Revival, performed by "Creedence Again" featuring Rich Perex as John Fogarty; Bonyfingers, an extraordinary talented Grateful Dead tribute band;
The Who, performed by The Wholigans and Marrakesh Express who will pay tribute to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Abraxas, the world's finest Santana tribute band will close the show.
This year, limited RV camping will be permitted on the airport's 2600' grass runway.
The "Woodstock "Tribute" planning committee is in the process of accepting proposals for vendor participation and sponsorship inquiries.
